Kobe East Menu

This is a very good sushi restaurant. I think it is of comparable quality to any place I've been to in IL. The sushi is very fresh, the waitstaff very friendly and the sushi chefs make special creations for you when they recognize you. The ambiance is also very nice for a business lunch or date night. I eat at Kobe East as often as I can.

We went here for the first time last Saturday. It was great! The place was super clean, didn't smell like fish, and had very friendly servers. I had my usual Chirashi - the presentation of it was beautiful! The only thing that I didn't like (and why I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5) is that it was on a plate instead of in a bowl. I like a lot of rice and there really wasn't enough for my liking. I think if I do ever get the dish again I'll ask to have them put it in a bowl. My husband chose the deluxe? I think. It came with great sashimi and a few rolls. All in all it was FAB!

I would rate Kobe East 5 stars if it wasn't for the crappy service. The sushi is great which is why I keep going back, but the service sucks.

Came with a party of about 15 for a birthday party, we called days in advance to make a reservation. Took them an hour to take our orders, then after we all ordered, one of the ladies came over to tell us they were out of Golden Sauce. How do you run out of a sauce that is an option on basically all of your dishes??? Anyway, that wasn't the worst of it, the young lady was also giving us attitude when we shared our displeasure at this news. Next, they came out with dishes for about 4 people, that's it. Even worse, the food was cold on all 4 plates. Then they served white rice only to the rest of us, followed by vegetables, followed by shrimp, which they clearly buy frozen from a grocery store then lobster which is questionable, then steak. I want to let you know they charge about $45 for these entrees. At this point, it was pretty much a joke and we couldn't believe how terrible of an experience it turned out to be. They took 20% off the bill, which I must mention, but it took us over 3 hours to get all of our food and the food at this place is a joke for what they charge. NEVER COMING AGAIN EVER!!!

Excellent sushi here! Rolls are great, and the fish is fresh. A bit expensive, but worth it. Make sure to try the fried ice cream desert.

The service is wonderful and the sushi is delicious. Make sure to try the Rock 'N' Roll!

Awesome place for lunch. Had the Lake Zurich combo. All sushi and sashimi were very fresh and made to order. Service was friendly and prompt. We will return soon. Bonus: they are next to Trader Joes.

Their sushi is delicious. The rolls aren't innovative, but they're fresh and of good quality. That said, Kobe East only gets 3 stars in my book because the service is CONSISTENTLY HORRIBLE. What's up with that, Kobe?!?!

  • Ron S.

Was actually really impressed and surprised with the quality of the sushi here and how many of their own special rolls they have. The sushi is very pricey and the service sucks, but I am still a fan and would go here over the regular Kobe

Very tasty fresh sushi, rolled and served quickly and graciously in a mellow, dusky setting. I've visited three times and each different server was swift and cordial; the sushi chefs work with blinding speed and big smiles. My chirashi box (always a fair litmus test for any sushi bar) was bursting with fresh, odorless fish, appropriately lukewarm sticky rice, and lots of oshinko, ginger, and fresh real (!) wasabi. Noodle bowls are nothing special, but worth the price. Good warm sakes are available; I haven't tried the cold. NB: This place is not to be confused with Kobe of Japan, the deplorable hibachi bar right next door.

This is the best sushi I've ever had. Try the kiwi roll or the crunch roll. Delicious. The service is awful- always wait forever. The only reason I keep going back is because I literally crave their sushi.

My wife works near Kobe's in Lake Zurich. I've only been here for lunch, but it's a great lunch menu and the food was very good. They also have a nice ambiance. I wish it was near my home. I don't give 5-stars to places I've been to once, but we'll see for next time.

We have done both Sushi and the flat top grill cuisine here. Both are good but we think that the sushi is better. If you were going here for one or the other go with sushi...assuming that you like sushi...

  • Bon J.

I've been here weekly for three months. Solid fish, very fresh. Great service. Rolls could have a bit more rice and packed tighter, but it works. Sit at the bar and watch Kim work his majic. Try the wasabi rolls in the Lake Zurich combo

Our family has eaten here many, many times. However, after our last visit, we've vowed NEVER to return. Food quality is mediocre at best, but prices are very high. Most of all, the hardest thing to overlook is the RUDE management and service. More times, than not, over the past year when we've dined there, our server has been surly, and rude. No better luck with the management, either. Pleasing their customers is not at the top of their priority list. Whatever mood "Michelle" (the manager?) happens to be in that particular night, will determine the outcome of the evening, and the satisfaction (or rather DISSATISFACTION level of your experience. When I spend $300-$350 for a special family birthday dinner event, I don't expect to leave the restaurant being irritated, insulted, and upset. Definitely NOT WORTH IT, and we won't be going back!

Place is going downhill......will never return to the regular Kobe, as the last time we were there, they cooked the crap out of the lobster and when we complained about it, they couldn't be bothered and said that's how we cook it.....have been going to Kobe East since then, just for the sushi, and to order golden shrimp and fried rice...the nice thing is they have half price appetizers during happy hour (limited appetizers) so we usually order a few of those, some rice, the dynamite and a sushi roll and we're happy.....this last time, not so happy, as they were out of golden sauce...dont' know why as I could not understand the waitress......the volume of their clientele is quickly declining, and perhaps that is because they don't try to please the customer and more like, if you don't like it, then leave.

I went here instead of the steakhouse side last night because they overbooked the reservations. Thier maki rolls are very unique and the tuna was fresh. Only reason why I could not give five stars is because the portions could have been bigger

So disappointed! This is the worst sushi restaurant I've ever been! Bad service, overpriced and the food was nothing special. There was only 1 waitress serving the whole restaurant at dinner time. You can imagine that how long you have to wait for ur food. It actually took 35 mins for them to make 2 tiny little rolls. And their drinks were ridiculously expensive too. If u don't wanna get ripped off and waste ur time, don't go there.

  • Jen H.

Very good, fresh sushi, but a bit pricey. More expensive than the others in the area and nothing special to make it worth going to over any other. I've only been here for dinner and it's always pretty empty, so service is fast.

Working in Lake Zurich leaves a lot to be desired having to find something not McDonald's for lunch. However this gem is tucked away nicely next to Trader Joe's. They have a nice lunch menu with some assorted trays full of delicious nigiri and rolls. Fairly cheap prices that you don't taste in the quality of the meal. A small restaurant, not very busy at lunch time, not sure if no one knows about it or if it was just an off day. I would like to go back and try it at dinner time.

Came here for a family dinner. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the area, but this was my first time back in 4+ years. They tried to cram 3 families (9 people total) at one table/grill, despite the fact that half the tables were open. One of the other families left immediately because it was so cramped. We ordered a variety of meat choices from their hibachi menu. Our chef was a disappointment. Part of the hibachi experience is the show, and the only trick our chef did was the steam volcano (although he messed up the initial separation of the onion rings and ended up only making a squat, 3 level volcano) or interact with anyone at the table other than to make sure he had our orders right. My medium rare steak came out more well done, but it was still ok. Our waiter didn't really check in on us, but they seemed short staffed despite the fact that half the restaurant was empty. The waiter forgot the california roll and edamame that came with the other family's order, and when they reminded him, he brought both out in one to go box. The familiy had to get another box and separate it themselves so the hot edamame wouldn't ruin the sushi roll. Overall, the service left a lot to be desired, and as there are other hibachi restaurants in the area, I don't think we'll be coming back.

This place is an absolute joke when it comes to sushi. I completely disagree with any other review I've read so far. I've worked in the area for several years, I've gave these people numerous chances to up their game, yet still they're making the same mistakes. No wonder this place is empty at lunch nearly every time I go. A few words of advice for the owners: 1. Make sure to hire professional sushi chefs. 2. Advise the chefs that they are there to roll the sushi, not squeeze it to the shape of triangle. 3. One layer of single grain rice on the nori is absolutely scandalous to say the least, all you can taste is the nori on the first bite, not the rice. 4. Hire professional sushi chefs.... Never going back there again.

I have been to Kobe East three times for lunch. By far, the highest quality and best price sushi lunch around. I always get one of the boxes and am more than satisfied when I am done. Great quiet atmosphere and a terrific wait staff. I am not sure how busy they get for dinner. Kobe is GREAT for small business lunches! Also, Kobe is great for sushi first timers! I always take first timers to a high quality place because sushi is typically an acquired preference. To me sushi is really two acquired "tastes"...actual taste and texture. If you like seafood, taste usually isn't a big deal at a quality place (it's a huge deal at a bad place as bad sushi is really gross). Texture is another story and the harder part to acquire and trying a variety of items is key to getting around the "squishy" initial texture.

Seriously hands down the BESTTTTTTT ever sushi!!!!!!! Loved it!!!!!!!!! Garlic shrimp appetizer = best ever Fried rice = best I have ever had Literally ALL the rolls were amazing!!!! Especially the bscr - calamari was on point!

Decent sushi. I almost gave 4 stars, but I was looking for sushi that was a little more adventurous. The service was great. Super friendly. I liked my appetizer the best.

Been here many many times. Food is fresh an well executed for a straight sushi place. I did not have much choice years ago when this was the only local sushi restaurant. However, 9 out of 10 times I have felt rushed and almost like the servers were badly pretending to be genuine and nice. Now I have choices. For those who have not read my reviews - stop reading reviews from those who only post several times. Stop posting one bad service experience. Give it 3 try's before you slam them. We're human. Stop complaining about the price. Fresh well prepared food will cost you a lot more and it's worth it. Stop serving us unimaginative bland food in the suburbs. We want the same food you serve in the city.

I completely agree with the post regarding the daughter, which BTW when I called to voice my concerns, stated she is the owner and there isn't anyone else to talk to. Very very interesting... The food isn't bad, the prices are so so but the service is horrible. My company used to order from there at least 2 times a month, spending anywhere from $150.00-$200 or more depending on the number of people. However after my last visit I REFUSE to order from this place again. The "daughter" needs to be fired or I promise you your business will close due to lack of business. She is rude, inconsiderate and makes you feel like you are doing her a favor by ordering. Well by what I am reading here, you've lost a hand full of regulars and will continue to do so until changes are made.

This is a good place to go for very good quality sushi and good though confusing (too many people) service. Don't bother with the "Tempura Ice Cream". It's basically vanilla ice cream cut into a cube which is battered and deep fried. When served, the batter didn't seem to be fully cooked and was just mushy instead of having a crunch. The ice cream itself had freezer burn and was nothing special. Bleh... We've been here a number of times over several years and have had some strange experiences: Miso soup that tasted like dish detergent (the chef claimed it was fine); We ordered a hand roll properly on their order form, the waitress verbally confirmed that it was a handroll, and we were served maki; Oh yeah, they also tried to charge me an extra $10 for uni which I didn't order and didn't receive. Check your bill!

Great sushi but price is in the high side for not being in the city. Still really good.

Amazing food, perfectly cooked, peaceful atmosphere, very friendly service, quick, yet delicate and intricate preparation of their sushi rolls makes this place a very awesome one indeed.

I have been here quite a few times for lunch with my friends. Prices are awesome and you get a lot of food. The Kobe Soup is the best. :) I have never been to the hibachi bar next store but I heard it was really expensive.

I had a very mixed experience when I went here. The food was really good but the service was lackluster... boreline rude. There are better places that are cheaper in Lake Zurich.

  • Amanda G.

Overpriced. Boring experience. When we questioned why we didn't receive a salad or soup with our noodle entree, manager was VERY RUDE! Insisting noodle dishes don't come with soup and salad even though noodle dishes were listed under entrees, which entrees were to include the items. Clearly the customer is always wrong here. Lame decor. Sushi was nothing unique. We will never go back. We regretted eating here before we even received our check.

Love Kobe East! It's a great atmosphere and the food is great. Love their sushi. Just discovered the spicy beef ramen soup. I know, sounds cheesy but it's actually really good. Flavorful broth, lots of veggies, tender beef and its spicy. I love the tempura ice cream but apparently so does everyone else. Sometimes they are out. If they have it, must get it!!!!

Very surprising, literally an empty restaurant when we sat down and still empty except for us when leaving. Hate to say we stopped in here because our fav sushi is closed on Mondays but that is the reason for the visit. The hostess:server was not friendly and honestly appeared put off that she had to work. She was in the back near the sushi bar when we walked in and instead of a pleasant greeting she loudly said "come back here". Not very inviting. Ordered sashimi, negi beef (omg it was way too sweet) and tempura app. Didn't find the fish as fresh tasting, or fresh in texture as we have come to expect. Wish it had been better but we won't be back.

I am in heaven. I finally found the one roll that's my favorite back home and now I can enjoy it here in the Midwest. BSCR is the best thing ever made. I came here for dinner take out and it was absolutely amazing still when I got home. I need to bring my family here next time. I only tried that one roll. I will definitely come back and try the rest of their rolls. Another good thing I saw is that they have outdoor seating. Baked scallops California roll is so creamy. Good enough masago and yummy goodness. Can't get enough of 1 order. Must have at least 2 order. Will definitely come back and if it's warm enough, we will be sitting outside. Quick service. Friendly waitress. It's not that far from home. I can't believe I missed it all these years living around here!

Decent sushi for the area though the nigiri was a bit light on the fish. Their ginger dressing for the salad was great. I'd come back until I find a better option.

Best sushi I have ever had! Lived on the west coast for a while and couldn't find a place that beat it. Service can be a little hit or miss but they are always SOOOO friendly and accommodating!!! The brown/black sushi rice is a must, king crab anything is delish!!

Udated 12/5/14 Decided to give this place another try, and as a result, I'm bumping them up a half star to a full 3. Maybe a touch above. The towels are back, and both hostess and server were very nice. Based on lunch yesterday, I'd put them back in the rotation. 2 1/2 Stars Has something changed? The hot towels are gone and after I ordered my salmon teriyaki lunch box, the waitress served the salad and miso soup and came back to tell me that they are low on salmon and had to save it for the sushi . So I couldn't have the salmon. How about the chicken? So you HAVE salmon but you won't serve it to me? Is it a different salmon for the teriyaki and the sushi? No, she says. Well, I realize that sushi represents more profit, but their inventory ordering should not be my problem. Very disturbed by this. I order it with chicken, but let her know I am unhappy. Meal arrives with salmon. Whaddya know? Upped to 3 stars after a 1 week period in the penalty box. (8/13) ... and back down to 2 again. If half-stars were permitted, they'd get 2 1/2. Ordered the salmon teriyaki lunchbox again and asked if I could have something as a substitute for the tempura. The waitress said she could give me some extra vegetables. Fine, I said. Then, as if an afterthought, she said it would be a dollar extra. Fine, I'm trying to eat healthier, so Fine. The stir fried veggies were tasty, though for some reason almost all onion. The plate had teriyaki beef instead of salmon, but they changed it out pretty quickly. When the check came, they hadn't added the dollar, which the waitress made a point of telling me. I didn't begrudge the dollar, though I thought it petty. And making sure I was aware that they hadn't charged me after all ... well it just seemed awkward and ... well ... petty again. Ah well, I found a much better place just a mile or so away. I'll do a writeup on that very soon. But until then ... it's pretty new, it's called Sake Sushi, and it's really good.
